"Yea, thou also art ignorant of the true effects of saving faith in this righteousness of Christ, which is, to bow and win over the heart to God in Christ, to love his Name, his Word, Ways, and People; and not as thou ignorantly imaginest.
John Bunyan, 1628-1688, Pilgrim's Progress (Books for Christians, 1972, p. 166)

Pilgrim's Progress is an allegory, but the immediate context of the quote is replying to an individual who claims that teaching salvation by grace through faith will result in people deciding to just go out and sin.
ReplyDeleteI hope this helps clarify what the context is.
Aaaah, a very good reply to that concern. That is definitely a concern of externally focused religiousness but, as the reply indicates, salvation is a matter of a regenerated and new heart that desires to please God in all it does.
