Astonishment, Amazement, Adoration of Jesus

In a spiritual world of quick fixes and vague emotion, is it crazy to believe there is still a place for insights based on simple, basic, theological understanding. I believe it is worth exploring.
But are we cogs in Gods machine?
ReplyDeleteNo, God does not need us to accomplish His purposes. Rather He chose to create us that we might become His children and might grow into the image of Christ. This is not for His benefit, but our benefit. Now part of that growth process is that we learn to love and help others. And God has chosen to use us to do that. But this is to our benefit that we might grow into the people He intents us to be.
DeleteI hear you Mike - no one like to be seen as a cog in something greater. Yet I wonder. God may not "need" us to accomplish his purposes on earth but it seems that we (i.e. humanity) are the chief way that he has always used to love his creation. Even he felt is necessary to take on human form to show us the way of love. SO maybe being a cog in a divine love machine is a pretty good thing?
ReplyDeleteThat's a interesting perspective. My main purpose is to avoid the idea that we are merely interchangeable and disposal parts whose only purpose is to make the system work. I do not believe God sees us that way and I am convinced we must avoid seeing others that way.
DeleteOn that we agree Mike. We are a part of his magnificent plan but we are not divine robots with no free will.
DeletePS: Captcha is killing me. I cannot make out the letters half the time I try to comment. But I will try again. :)
I believe in God's sovereignty, but I also believe this does not make us robots or cogs or white mice in a maze. I realize there is a mystery to this, I am convinced there is a mystery in any attempt to reconcile God's control of the world with human choice.
Delete(I have decided to make the experiment of turning off captcha. Maybe I will get more comments. Maybe I will get more comments I do not want. We will see.)
On that we agree Mike. It does seem that God has ceded some of his sovereignty to humans on a micro level while retaining sovereignty on a macro level.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making it easier to comment. I suggest that you turn off anonymous comments. When I did that my spam went to nil because only real people were allowed to comment.
Thank you, I will have to remember that if I start getting spam.
